Wow!

In an entertaining Final Four basketball event featuring the top student-athletes in the game, the 2012 men’s NCAA national championship game is now set!

Which two college teams earned spots to play in the championship game?

Well … No. #1 seeded Kentucky Wildcats and the No. #2 seeded Kansas Jayhawks did.

 

Ironically Kentucky has the number one player in the country Anthony Davis, while Kansas presumably has the number two big man in the country, Thomas Robinson. I’m pretty sure both will be in picked top 5 in this year NBA Draft.

The championship game will be a test for both teams as both coaches are experienced for this type of game. 

NBA

Linsanitly is likely done for this NBA season. Playmaker’s twitter stream blew up with confirmed news from ESPN that Jeremy Lin, New York’s new, most popular point guard will be out with a chronic meniscus tear in his left knee missing up to six weeks. We will be following this story in the upcoming weeks…

NFL

Did you hear Ray Lewis pregame speech to the Stanford men's basketball team in the Semi-Finals of the NIT a couple of days ago. In cased you missed it Playmaker Mobile got you covered!

That speech propelled Stanford to win the NIT championship against Minnesota. Ray Lewis is going to have a great career being a motivational speaker after his years in the NFL are through.

Playmaker Roundup: Team To Beat In the NBA East, Last Week's NFL QB Trades and Updated NCAA Tournament Madness!

NBA

The Chicago Bulls are legitimately the best well rounded team in the East. After continuing to prove doubters wrong win after win and with their superstar guard Derrick Rose out six games recovering from a groin injury, clearly they will be the favorite to run against the defending Eastern Conference Champions, the Miami Heat. 

At 40-10 the Bulls became the first team in the NBA this year to clinch a playoff spot. Even if they get no play on ESPN, the Chicago Bulls is not a team to be reckoned with!

NFL

QB trade talks flooded Playmaker Mobile’s twitter stream last week, as we learned that the Denver Broncos released Quarterback Tim Tebow and “Tebowmania,” for veteran but questionable QB Peyton Manning. 

The Jets are debbating to release Mark Sanchez on the basis of his work ethic, and ego. Those traits are very detrimental to a teams identity and we see bad blood already forming in this year off-season between teammates and coaches. Sources remain optimistic on Sanchez career however, some say he will be a good fit for the Oakland Raiders. 

 Tebow will take “Tebowmania” to New York Jets, as they will begin to prep the offensive to be more suitable for him. If the Jets want to win they need to work on Tebow’s throwing and be a run first offense.

NCAA

With 65 college teams starting out, we are now coming down to the “Final Four,” in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

This is always a great time to watch college basketball, as players put their heart on the line to capture the prestigious NCAA gold-platted championship trophy. 

OR?

They could just be playing so their stock can rise in the upcoming NBA Draft, either way it makes way to see great competition.

The four teams I have playing will be #1 seed Kentucky against #4 seed Louisville, and the other match will be #2 seed Ohio St. against Kanas.

For the average sport fan March can be surprisingly overwhelming with breaking news happening in the NBA, NFL and the NCAA Tournament.To keep you updated here are the list of the top sport stories that trended this week.

 NBA

 TICK...TICK...TICK....

 

The NBA sports world had all eyes fixed on Dwight Howard, the #1 overall big man in the league today, seeing if he was going to opt-out of his contract this past thursday with the Orlando Magic and become a free agent. Teams of Howard interest where the L.A Lakers, New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks.

 Howard waited until the last minute of the deadline to say he’ll remain with Orlando and next year 2012-2013 season.Sources reveal that Howard knew his decision months in advance, but loved the media attention surrounding his decision.

 

 The biggest trade came this week as the Golden State Warriors shipped their franchise player, 2-guard Monta Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks for their Injured franchise center Andrew Bogut.  Warrior fans took to twitter and other social media sites to vent their frustration on this abrupt trade of their favorite player.  

Monta Ellis, found out he was traded after looking at the sports ticker on T.V, a couple of hours before game time against the Sacramento Kings and seemed hurt with Golden State’s management call.

 Side-note: Ellis played against Golden State Friday and torched them scoring 18 points. Brandon Jennings had a double double scoring 13 points.  The final score was Milwaukee 120 Golden State 98.

 NFL 

We want Manning..clap..clap...clap,clap,clap!

 

That cheer is going around to the fans of three NFL teams right now. The Tennessee Titians, Denver Broncos, and creeping up behind the San Francisco 49ers. Not to sound biased, but the 49ers a have a great chance on landing him. Jim Harbaugh coach of the 49ers will ask QB Alex smith to play the back-up QB roll. Since they developed a kinship this past season and with Alex NFL career resume not that impressive to other teams, he will gladly accept the role. San Francisco is already impressively tight locked on Defensive and Offensive and something that the 49ers have always lacked since the Jeff Garcia days was a legitimate QB. 

 NCAA

Does your bracket look like this so far....

 

Somehow The NCAA tournament upsets me with upsets.I never know who's going to win, and by looking at the Stats does not seem to help. It is to be hoped that my Final Four pick comes out true, fingers crossed.

A.C. Green Interview

Jim is currently in his 27th season as the Golden State Warriors television analyst. Barrnet talks about how it feels to be honored by the Pac-12, Dwight Howard NBA trade rumors and what its like to be a NBA broadcaster.

Colorado Shocks the Pac-12 to Take Home the Tournament Championship

            The finals of the Pac-12 Tournament featured four-time winner Arizona facing Pac-12 newcomer Colorado. Both teams needed a win to ensure their bid to the big dance. The first 10 minutes of the game was a low scoring affair, with neither team finding any consistent offense. As the first half wore on Colorado was sparked by freshman guard Spencer Dinwiddie’s range as he went three for three behind the arc in the first half. The Arizona Wildcats were able to pull within 2 points at the half with sound performances from Jesse Perry and Kyle Fogg.

            For the better part of the 2^nd half it seemed that the Colorado Buffalos were going to run away with the win mounting a 12-point lead. The Buffs couldn’t put the Wildcats away however, getting only one basket, a monster jam by Carlon Brown, in the final 9 minutes. With only 14 seconds remaining, Arizona’s Kyle Fogg terminated his dribble and was forced into a difficult 3-point shot that missed everything.

            Colorado defeated Arizona 53-51 in the lowest scoring Pac-12 Tournament championship game ever. Arizona lost the previous year by two points, both being the narrowest margin of victories in championship game history.

            The Playmaker of the game belonged not to the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, Carlon Brown, but to Andre Roberson who finished the game with a double-double, and lead each squad in rebounds, blocks, steals and tied for the lead in assists.

Stanford Women Win their 6th Straight Pac-12 Tournament

            The championship game featured the top two seeds from the Pac-12, Stanford and Cal. Stanford the second best team in the nation, was looking for its 28^th straight win in a row. The California Golden Bears on the other hand were looking to avenge two regular season losses at the hands of the Stanford Cardinal.

             Stanford jumped out to an early 13-point lead on the backs of Ogwumike sisters, who ended the tournament breaking a few Pac-12 Tournament records. The Golden Bears clawed their way back into the game on the strong play of freshman Brittany Boyd; an exciting player in her own right, and was one assist shy of a triple double in Cal’s previous game against Washington State. The Cardinal however were able to withstand Cal’s run and ended the first half with a 6-point lead.

            The second half wasn’t even close. Both Nnemkadi and Chiney Ogwumike had outstanding performances and put the game out of reach early in the 2^nd half. Nnemkadi Ogwumike finished the game with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Chiney Ogwumike also had a double-double putting up 17 points and 13 rebounds. Stanford went on to win the game by a final score of 77 to 62; their sixth straight Tournament win.

Nnemkadi Ogwumike tied the record for most points in the Pac-12 Tournament with 71, and set the record for most made field goals with 27. Her sister Chiney Ogwumike broke the tournament record of 35 with 37 rebounds of her own. The Playmaker of the game went to the Pac-12 Tournament’s Most Outstanding player, Nnemkadi Ogwumike.

Arizona Wildcats upend Oregon State's dream of an NCAA bid in Pac-12 Tournament

    Oregon State fresh off their upset victory of top seeded Washington, faced the Arizona Wildcats in the first game of the semi-finals. Arizona got out to an early lead with a strong team effort paced by Solomon Hill and Jesse Perry. The Beavers of Oregon State responded strongly behind Pac-12 leading scorer Jared Cunningham and big man Devon Collier to take a 7-point lead at halftime.

            In the middle of three straight games, the Oregon State players ran out of gas in the 2^nd half. Jesse Perry put up a dominant performance in the paint while guard Kyle Fogg terrorized the Beavers from the outside. It was a great run by Oregon State, winning more tournament games then ever before and should come back strong next season.

            Kyle Fogg and Jesse Perry share the Playmaker of the game award with their smart play and excellent hustle.

Colorado rebuffs Oregon to move on in the Pac-12 Tournament

    Pac-12 newcomer Colorado faced off against the Oregon Ducks in the final game of Pac-12 quarterfinal action. Colorado defeated Oregon in the regular season by a single point setting the stage for another close game; neither team disappointed.

    The Buffalos of Colorado held an 8 point lead but saw themselves go down by 3 late in the game, but rallied to take a 1 point lead with about six seconds left to play. Oregon’s final shot fell short, and Colorado will move on to face Cal in the semifinals.

    The Playmaker of the game was Andre Roberson who had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Cal avenges loss to Stanford with a victory in the Pac-12 semi-finals

 

    The third game of the quarterfinals featured the fierce rivals of Cal verses Stanford. In the most recent matchup the Stanford Cardinal defeated the California Golden Bears, preventing the Bears a share of the regular season conference championship.

    Stanford was able to take advantage of Cal’s 14 first half turnovers and held a 7-point lead at half time. The Cardinal were lead by Andrew Zimmermann’s 22 points and 7 rebounds, but he was out played by Cal’s Jorge Gutierrez. Gutierrez, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, had a good all around game, with 22 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. His play, along with the Bears major reduction of turnovers in the second half propelled them past their 7-point half time deficit and on to victory over the Stanford Cardinal.

    With his great effort tonight, Pac-12 Player of the Year Jorge Gutierrez is the Playmaker of the game.
